Economic Security Project Action released the following statement in response to the announcement of the Republicans’ proposal for the Child Tax Credit:

“Republicans’ new Child Tax Credit proposal pushes MORE children into poverty. As families struggle with rising costs, the GOP plan permanently kicks out 4.5 million US citizen children and leaves 17 million low-income and working-class children locked out of the full credit because their families earn too little,” said Adam Ruben, Director of Economic Security Project Action. “This CTC could push as many as 2 million kids into poverty or deeper into poverty.”

“Temporarily increasing the maximum credit for families making up to $400,000 while turning their backs on struggling working-class families shows, once again, that Republicans have their priorities in the wrong order. The GOP tax proposal is incredibly cruel to America’s most vulnerable kids.”
