New York, NY – Economic Security Project Action Co-Founder and President Natalie Foster issued the following statement on President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress:
“President Trump promised to ‘put America first’ and lower costs for working people. However, the economic agenda he just presented to Congress and the American people — and the actions he’s taken since day one — have done the opposite. Prices remain high, inflation is stagnant, and DOGE cuts threaten essential services millions of people rely on. The introduction of sweeping tariffs has plunged the country into economic uncertainty while American families brace for the impact of cuts to critical programs like Medicaid, Social Security, and SNAP. This is a remarkable bait-and-switch: the Republican Party won the election by promising to fix a rigged economic system that Americans from all backgrounds feel is stacked against them. Instead, their agenda doubles down on the same broken system.
American families deserve better. Congress should reject this vision for America and step-up to deliver policies that offer affordability, stability and shared prosperity to families. As Congress considers the budget and the 2025 tax code, it’s time to prioritize an economy that works for all Americans, not just for Trump and his billionaire allies.”
