Corona Community Protests Rep. Calvert’s Support for Trump Tax Cuts, Demands Tax Fairness for All Families

Local Constituents Join with Economic Security California Action and Partners to Rally Against Billionaire Tax Breaks

Corona, CA – With key provisions of the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) set to expire at the end of 2025, community members and local leaders gathered at Corona City Hall today to protest Congressional Republicans’ efforts to extend and expand these tax breaks for billionaires and wealthy corporations at the expense of working families.
Advocates delivered a powerful message to Congressional Rep. Ken Calvert, as well as to lawmakers across the country: they won’t stand by while MAGA Republicans hand tax breaks to billionaires and pay for them by slashing healthcare, veterans programs, education, and attacking Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
The rally featured Oxfam’s “Tax Fight Yacht Tour” with a giant inflatable yacht emblazoned with “Tax the Ultra-Rich” – a symbol of wealth inequality that has drawn significant attention. The yacht tour is traveling nationwide to spotlight the devastating impact of proposed billionaire tax cuts and to rally public support for a fairer tax system.
Acclaimed chef, restaurateur and local activist Mary Sue Milliken attended the rally, sharing food with participants and delivering a powerful statement on behalf of former U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer:
“We must demand respect for working families and others who need a voice… We are stunned that our Congressman Ken Calvert has not said a word against the vicious cuts announced by Republicans for Social Security, Medicaid, education, cancer and Alzheimer’s research, air and water quality, and the sell off of precious land that is a legacy for future generations. His silence is acquiescence and that does not reflect the values of his district.”
Participants called on Rep. Calvert and other House Republicans to reject tax policies that favor the wealthy and instead support measures that benefit middle-class families, such as expanding the Child Tax Credit and ensuring corporations pay their fair share of taxes.
The event brought together constituents and community leaders from Economic Security California Action, Oxfam, Indivisible Riverside, and Mi Familia Vota in a collective call for tax justice and economic policies that work for all Americans, not just the wealthy few.
“Why are we here? Because all of us strongly believe: No more tax cuts for billionaires and wealthy corporations,” said Mónica Lazo, California Campaigns Director at Economic Security California Action. “Instead of slashing vital programs, we need to put more money back in working- and middle-class families’ pockets to help with the crushing cost of living and the affordability crisis that is currently hurting our communities. We need tax policies that help families afford basic necessities like housing, groceries, and childcare.”
“These Child Tax Credit exclusions make economic inequities worse, denying families access to essentials like housing, food ,and healthcare,” said Tim Hernandez, California State Director at Mi Familia Vota. “This is about more than policy—it’s about our values.”
