Visit resource page: Premium Disaster Watch Social Media ToolkitAmericans deserve better, more affordable healthcare. They’re fed up with corporate profiteering that’s making healthcare so expensive for everyone, and they’re desperate for Congress to stand up to health insurance companies to lower costs and expand care. Instead, Republicans in Congress gutted Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) just to give tax cuts to the same health insurance CEOs responsible for ripping us all off.
Right now, American families are getting squeezed by grocery, housing, and utility prices, and healthcare is already too expensive. The last thing they can afford is even higher healthcare costs. No one should have to choose between putting food on the table and affording the care and medications they need to survive. But without urgent action from Congress, that’s the impossible choice facing millions of people.
But Congress can act right now to stop the healthcare heist and chart a path towards better, affordable healthcare for all.
ChallengeH.R. 1, the partisan tax and spending bill passed in July 2025, represents the largest-ever cut to healthcare in US history. The impacts will be massive and devastating. Millions of families will lose health coverage entirely, and the ones who manage to keep it will have to pay even more. Hundreds of hospitals across the country will be forced to close down or cut essential services, especially in rural areas. Over a million jobs will be lost nationwide. Many of these impacts will happen over the course of the next decade, but others will hit our healthcare system – and our wallets – right now.
people will see premiums more than double without ACA tax credits.
people will lose coverage over the next decade from GOP cuts.
The first major impact will be massive premium spikes for over 22 million Americans insured through the ACA. On November 1, 2025, open enrollment will begin for millions of small business owners, self-employed individuals, and working families who rely on the ACA to get their 2026 health insurance. The vast majority will be shocked to see their premiums double or even triple because H.R. 1 failed to extend ACA tax credits that lower the cost of coverage.
Step one to stopping the healthcare heist: Congress must prevent premium price shocks by permanently extending the ACA tax credits now.
What We DoTo get Congress to take action, they need to hear our message loud and clear.
There are many ways to make your voice heard. Share stories from folks who will be affected by skyrocketing premiums and harsh cuts to healthcare directly to your members of Congress, online, and at events. Host a press conference with storytellers and supporters outside the office of your member of Congress. Convene a roundtable with small business owners. Organize a call-in day to your lawmakers. Talk about the issue on social media and tag your representatives. Use the resources above to find out how the healthcare heist will impact you and plan your actions.
Open Enrollment for people that buy their own insurance on the ACA marketplace starts November 1st. The National Week of Action is a critical time to take action and to tell the stories of the real-life impacts of the Republican cuts to healthcare.
