With the midterms looming, Republicans can’t keep dodging accountability for sticking working folks with the bill for their expensive, harmful agenda. These Receipts show families, in dollar amounts, exactly what Republicans have cost them, based on publicly available data.

What Republicans Promised

The cost of living crisis is crushing American families. Prices are skyrocketing, but paychecks aren’t keeping up. Parents are struggling to provide for their families. Working folks are being forced to make hard choices between which bills to pay and ones to delay. And more adults than ever are turning to risky, short-term loans just to make ends meet. 

Republicans pledged to give families relief by lowering costs for basic needs like food, gas, electricity, and more. The 23 lawmakers featured in the Republican Receipts made promises to protect healthcare, to prioritize working families over the ultra-rich, and to make life more affordable for their constituents. 

What The Republican Receipts Show

The Republican Receipts show these 23 lawmakers betrayed voters by raising prices and putting profits over people. Instead of keeping their word to bring down the cost of living for working families, these Republicans raised the cost of healthcare, gas, groceries, electricity, and student loans, shredded the social safety net by gutting Medicaid, SNAP, and the Affordable Care Act, and cut taxes for billionaires and big corporations. H.R.1, their signature piece of legislation, snatched food aid and healthcare from millions of the most vulnerable Americans just to fund tax cuts for the ultra-rich. 

Now, we’re all paying a sky-high price for Republicans’ broken promises. This year, between gas, groceries, healthcare, and more, more than half of all Americans have reported struggling to afford the essentials. 22 million people are paying more for Affordable Care Act coverage or going without healthcare because Republicans killed tax credits that help families afford care.  Gas has rocketed to over $4 a gallon since last summer because President Trump and his pals in Congress started another terrible, violent war abroad instead of helping families at home. A bag of coffee is nearing $10, a spike of over 32% since January 2025, partly thanks to Trump’s tariffs. Childcare now costs more than a mortgage in nearly every state, but instead of funding affordable care options, Republicans threw billions at ICE. 

These 23 Republicans’ votes are squeezing constituents right now, but many of the sharpest social safety nets have yet to kick in, spreading the pain for years to come. Republican healthcare cuts – the largest in US history – have already terminated coverage for at least 6.5 million people, but over 15 million are estimated to lose healthcare in the next few years. Since Republicans gutted SNAP, at least 4.5 million hungry Americans have lost food assistance so far, including 1.5 million kids, but many more could lose this lifeline soon too. And even for the millions of people who don’t rely on Medicaid or SNAP, the cumulative damage of these cuts will make healthcare and food cost even more for everyone over time. 

Americans are fed up. We need real relief, not more empty promises. The Republican Receipts prove that talk is cheap, but the cost of living isn’t.
